What are the different types of audio cables?
There are many different types of audio cable. Some cables are digital and others are analog. There are different connectivity types: XLR, 1/4 inch, Stereo RCA and 3.5mm Mini Jack. Guitars use 1/4 inch jack cables, also known as 6.3mm TS cable.
How do gold-plated or expensive cables affect sound quality?
Expensive cables usually have better shielding. This means that they are less susceptible to interference which may present itself as humming or buzzing in an instrument's sound.
What is the difference between balanced and unbalanced audio cables? Which is right for me?
Balanced audio cables send two copies (including an inverted version) of an audio signal through a cable. This cancels out interference. Unbalanced audio cables only send one copy through, making them more susceptible to interference.
Which is better out of TRS and XLR cables?
XLR and TRS cables both sound the same and carry out the same function. However, XLR cables have multiple benefits as they can send phantom power, have a locking mechanism, and can be daisy-chained together.
