At the heart of Fender’s bass guitar collection you’ll find the legendary Precision Bass and Jazz Bass models, revered by musicians worldwide for their distinct character and versatility.
Fender Precision Bass
The Fender Precision Bass, affectionately known as the P Bass, pioneered the electric bass revolution when it debuted in 1951 with its deep, resonant tones and solid build. It’s incredibly versatile and great for almost any genre of music you can think of.
This is shown by who’s played the P Bass over the years, such as Sting, the Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson and Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters, as well as Dee Dee Ramone, Duff McKagan from Guns N’ Roses and Foo Fighters’ Nate Mendel. As well as Steve Harris from Iron Maiden and the man behind countless 60s and 70s Motown hits, James Jamerson.
Fender Jazz Bass
The Fender Jazz Bass introduced a new level of sonic versatility nine years after the P Bass was released, offering a brighter, punchier sound favoured by jazz, funk and rock bassists alike. There are more mids and trebles on offer with the J Bass, which is great for an array of genres and particularly good for fingerstyle and slap players.
The list of bassists who’ve picked up a Jazz Bass is another who’s who of all-time greats, featuring the likes of Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones, Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Noel Redding from the Jimi Hendrix Experience and U2’s Adam Clayton.
